School Partnerships

Working together to connect students to success

  • For Businesses

PENCIL School Partnership Programs provide volunteer teams from a wide variety of businesses the opportunity to regularly engage with New York City students through virtual and in-person facilitated workshops and events. Volunteers provide mentorship, insights into their industries, and access to unique opportunities in professional environments. Company leaders often cite PENCIL programs as a great way to build team culture, support professional leadership development, inspire the next generation of their workforce, and spur new energy and innovation in their team.

Types of Partnerships

  • School Year Long

PENCIL School Partnership Programs create and support ongoing relationships between business partners, school staff, and students to prepare students for college and career success. During the COVID pandemic, all programming is delivered virtually. PENCIL program staff coordinate and guide school year sessions that are supported by business partner volunteer teams, and include programming geared towards building skill sets students can apply towards future opportunities. Sessions range from workshops to prepare students to enter the professional world, to panels with corporate volunteers introducing students to a variety of career paths and opportunities.

  • Points of Engagement

These events provide groups of corporate volunteers, with high impact one-day engagement opportunities to connect with New York City public schools and students. Created in response to the need for meaningful days of volunteerism supporting NYC youth, PENCIL Points of Engagement utilize PENCIL's portfolio of college and career readiness workshops and are tailored to address both school needs and company volunteer objectives. Led by PENCIL program staff, sessions highlight volunteers’ experiences and perspective to model diverse paths to success. During the COVID pandemic all programs are delivered virtually, but in the past sessions have been hosted at schools or business offices.

  • Josue Sanchez
L+M Development & Murray Hill Academy School Partnership

Education has the power to transform and instigate change to better ourselves, society, and future generations. We truly value our partnership with PENCIL and Murray Hill Academy. We enjoyed building relationships with students as we navigated the challenges of inclusive real estate development for a better tomorrow.

  • Amy Carton
    Ogilvy & P.S. 123 School Partnership

It takes serious confidence (and courage) to walk into a company's global headquarters at ages 11 and 12, and yet they do it week in and week out with poise, personality, and unending curiosity. I am impressed weekly by the students' desire to learn and explore the world of advertising.

As a product of the NYC public school system, I was so honored to represent Schmidt's and Unilever on a virtual career panel for NYC public school kids organized by PENCIL, Inc.
