    PENCIL connects business and school leaders to leverage their collective energies and foster stronger schools, and to prepare students for college and career success. PENCIL serves as a critical liaison in these partnerships, providing hands-on support in the design, implementation, and evaluation of activities.

  • Internship Programs

    Each year, PENCIL connects over 1,000 students across New York with career readiness and professional skills training. PENCIL works to place these students in paid summer internships and virtual work-based learning opportunities. PENCIL is a proud provider of the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development's Ladders for Leaders Program and partner in the RXR/PENCIL Internship Program.

We’re proud to highlight PENCIL intern Meredith, w We’re proud to highlight PENCIL intern Meredith, who returned to PENCIL for another summer and reflected on the experiences, connections, and skills she gained along the way: "My internship at PENCIL has been an incredibly meaningful experience—allowing me to explore different areas of marketing, exposing me to the professional world, and offering me new perspectives, while letting me connect what I’ve learned as a marketing major to hands-on work. I have also gotten the opportunity to meet many people with a variety of different experiences and explore how those experiences have ultimately lead us all to the same room; On top of that, I have been able to develop a variety of professional skills, that altogether has reinforced my confidence as I continue to pursue my field of study and future aspirations. This internship has been such an amazing experience. I’d like to shout out Jessica who has always supported me and helped me learn so much—I truly appreciate her a lot. Her support has made my experience even more meaningful." We’re grateful to have had Meredith return to the PENCIL team this summer and bring her creativity and perspective to our work!
Last week, we welcomed some very special guests to Last week, we welcomed some very special guests to PENCIL for Bring the Child in Your Life to Work Day! From kicking things off with a snowball icebreaker to learning more about what the PENCIL team does each day, our young guests got a behind the scenes look at life at PENCIL. We wrapped up the day by putting their creativity to work with a fun storytelling project! It was a great opportunity to share our work with the next generation and have some fun along the way.
Early exposure can make a lasting impact on a youn Early exposure can make a lasting impact on a young person’s career journey. For @dhrozenchik, PENCIL alum and Young Professionals Council member, that exposure began with a PENCIL summer internship after graduating high school in 2012. “PENCIL has positively impacted my career journey by affording me to get early exposure to the professional and financial world through a summer internship between after graduating high school in 2012. It was a tremendous opportunity to be in professional setting and to work alongside like-minded individuals towards a common goal. This early experience helped charted my path down a career in the financial services industry.” Years later, Dean remains part of the PENCIL community as a member of our Young Professionals Council, helping support the next generation of NYC students as they begin their own career journeys.

Additionally, this internship has taught me a lot about what it means to be a confident professional and made me more comfortable with networking and communication. Overall, this has truly been a valuable experience that’s helped prepare me as I continue my professional journey and reinforced my dedication to serving my community. For everything this internship has given me this summer, I’m truly thankful. I’d like to shout out Hannah Immerman, who has been so kind and supportive throughout my time at PENCIL—guiding me through my first formal work experience, explaining things clearly when I was confused, and overall facilitating a positive experience for me at PENCIL. She truly contributed to making this the hallmark of my summer." We’re so glad to have had Sarah as part of the PENCIL team this summer and look forward to seeing where her professional journey takes her next!
