Principal for a Day®

Take the first step to connect students to success!

  • For Principal For A Day Participants

For 30 years Principal For A Day has been one of New York City’s most enduring and prestigious way for business and civic leaders to get involved in public education. As Principal For A Day you will learn what it takes to lead a New York City public school directly from principals and administrators as well as visit with students to offer insight into your career trajectory and opportunities that exist within your industry. This day is often the start of a company’s long term partnership with PENCIL. Join the more than 11,000 past participants including leading executives from companies Google, JetBlue, ViacomCBS, Amazon, and JPMorgan Chase as well as celebrities such as Jay-Z, Frances McDormand, and Jerry Seinfeld to learn about the potential that exists across the five boroughs.

  • For Schools

Since 1995 more than 1,000 New York City public schools have opened their doors to visiting Principals For A Day. This year we are excited to invite educators and executives to connect in-person, to share insights and knowledge. Participants are often interested in learning about the ins and outs of daily school leadership or interacting directly with students and teachers. As a school leader, you can participate in a variety of PENCIL’s programs that can highlight your school’s strengths and give your students an opportunity to learn about a new industry or career path. Many of PENCIL’s ongoing school/business partnerships began with a Principal For A Day® experience and we hope our upcoming events can launch many more long standing relationships!

Thank you PENCIL, Inc. for the opportunity to create a holding space for school leaders to share how they are leading their schools in the midst of all the tragedies we are experiencing in America, as well as the hopefulness of change permeating all around us.

As a product of public school, it was a thrill participating in the Principal for a Day program. I shadowed faculty, met with every grade and shared my academic journey along with the world of experiential marketing with the class of 2019.

What an amazing experience it was to talk to middle and high school students about their future career paths, technology, business, entrepreneurship, & social media!
