What kind of opportunity are you seeking this summer?
This summer, I would like another opportunity in Human Resources. I had a great experience as an HR Intern at NYU Langone and would love to develop the skills I learned even further.

What are your thoughts for a future career?
As of right now, I am enjoying my current job as a Human Resource Assistant Intern and could envision a long-term career in the field. However, there is a part of me that wants to pursue guidance counseling and give back and guide other high school students whose shoes I was once in.

Why are the Ladders for Leaders and PENCIL programs important to you?
Ladders for Leaders and PENCIL have a special place in my heart. Nowhere else will you find a more dedicated team of individuals coming together to make incredible things happen. PENCIL believed in me and molded me into the person I am today. I would not have had the amazing opportunities to intern at Fox 5, A&E Networks and NYU Langone were it not for PENCIL/Ladders for Leaders. I would have never spoken at an Executive Board Meeting, the Annual PENCIL Gala or participated in an intern Think Tank had I not been a part of the program. How many people my age can say they’ve done that? I have more internship experience and work skills then some college graduates and I’m only a sophomore. That alone should speak volumes for the impact that PENCIL/Ladders for Leaders has on today’s youth.

Any advice for students thinking about applying for the first time?
Just do it! I guarantee you will not regret applying and participating in the PENCIL/Ladders for Leaders program. You will be so grateful when you graduate college that you have actual real-life experience on your resume, which makes a world of a difference when looking for a job. The staff at PENCIL/Ladders for Leaders really cares about you and will move mountains to help you with whatever you need. That’s not something you find at every organization, and it’s one of the things that I love about PENCIL/Ladders for Leaders. Take advantage of the opportunities and don’t be nervous or think you’re not good enough. Trust me when I say that everyone has the potential to be great and PENCIL/Ladders for Leaders will help you become just that. With all the skills you’ll learn you’ll be confident enough to walk into any interview and nail it! On top of that, it’s a great way to meet new people and network! I cannot stress how important it is to start building your network as early as possible. With that, remember you won’t be alone. There’s a whole cohort of students just like you who are applying for the first time, and you all will grow together. So, what are you waiting for? Apply!

Any additional thoughts on your experience?
I couldn’t be happier with my experience thus far. Love you guys!
