What kind of opportunity are you seeking this summer?
To work with a global media company in strategy, social media, event planning or digital community engagement.

What are your thoughts for a future career?
Being in this program helped me to narrow down my choices and learn what I enjoy doing–being able to move from my desk and engage with others (either digitally or in person) in strategy and planning. I hope one day I’ll be able to work for a company with various locations around the world.

Why are the L4L and PENCIL programs important to you?
L4L and PENCIL programs are important to me because throughout my two years with them, they all have helped me to grow as a student and employee. I enjoy how they aren’t just strictly summer interactions. They connect with me throughout the whole year, offering new opportunities to engage with their community.

Any advice for students thinking about applying for the first time?
If you are hesitant, apply anyway! L4L and PENCIL are here to guide you to your potential career path and will help you gain experience for future employment. They’re very open about answering questions on various topics of discussion.

Any additional thoughts on your experience?
There are a few things I’ve learned that really surprised and helped me in the long run. From how best to format your resume to asking non-obvious interview questions (simply Google them) to show the employer that you’re ready! I’ve also learned about new companies and positions that I never knew existed, which has made my possible career path more interesting. Lastly, I love attending the events because talking with people around my age living in NYC help me gain more information about potential companies I might be interested in working for someday (or because I can get invited to more events for additional networking!)

Plans for Spring Break? We’ve got something for you to do! PENCIL is hosting the second pre-employment training event for the internship program March 13-15! Have you submitted your Ladders for Leaders application yet? Remember, Applications = Invites to Training! Once you are trained you are eligible to be matched to an internship!
