Avi is a Program Manager at PENCIL and works to connect schools and students with the business community to create opportunities for college and career programming and internships. Prior to joining PENCIL, Avi was a College Advisor to high school students in the Bronx, many of which are now the first in their families to attend and graduate college. Avi was inspired to pursue a career in public education after serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nicaragua. There, he worked with the Ministry of Education to integrate an entrepreneurship course into the national curriculum while teaching high school students entrepreneurial skills.
Avi received his master’s degree in International Education Policy and Management from Vanderbilt University. While a student at Vanderbilt, Avi was awarded the Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship in Brazilian Portuguese and complemented his education policy studies with field research on affirmative action policies in Brazil. He was also a consultant with the World Bank in Colombia where he evaluated ongoing secondary education reform efforts.
Avi is a graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!), an avid basketball player, and is proud to have grown up in the public schools of Jacksonville, Florida.
