Amanda Acobes is currently a Program Manager at PENCIL. She is a native New Yorker who has worked in the entertainment, higher education and educational consulting industries for the past eight years.
She got her start working behind the scenes as a Stage Manager for The Cell Theatre, and has staged seven productions in both New York City and Miami. While pursuing her master’s degree, she interned at WTVJ-NBC 6 Miami, and served as a personal assistant on a reality show aired by Oxygen.
Amanda’s passion for working with students began while she was an orientation leader at her alma mater, SUNY Oswego. Shortly after graduating in 2008, she began working for Marymount Manhattan College in the office of Residence Life. During her time at MMC, her role began to expand, and she started to work cross-departmentally with Student Activities, Graduation, Career Services and Student Affairs. After her move to sunny South Florida, she began working in Admissions for Full Sail University. All of these different experiences afforded Amanda the opportunity to really understand the fabric that makes up a university campus, and learn the business of running such institutions.
Prior to joining PENCIL, she served as a High School Ambassador for an educational consulting agency where she traveled to high schools all across South Florida, and led highly-interactive career exploration workshops that matched students with post secondary institutions, scholarships and careers. One of her greatest professional achievements was assisting her South Florida students to secure roughly half a million dollars worth of scholarships during the 2011-2014 academic years. Hailing from a family of educators, Amanda truly feels that working in education is in her blood. She is thrilled to be joining PENCIL as a Program Manager, and looks forward to connecting students and businesses together through meaningful internship experiences and partnerships.
When she is not preparing her students for life post grad, she can be found writing, attending local stand-up comedy shows and binging on Hulu and Netflix. Amanda holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Theatre from the State University of New York at Oswego and a Master’s of Science in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University.
